An inexpensive optical devices that inspired the design of the fly’s eye opens the door for the development of new imaging devices in medicine (medical imaging device). Benefit from the use of magnetic imaging devices in the examination and treatment in medicine is not in doubt. Israeli scientists are now developing a new device in this field. They hope that this tool, which is still under development, will provide more benefits than they are today. This advantage is lower cost than the imaging technology used in devices that already exist. Therefore, if this project becomes a reality, people will have the opportunity to review their health using imaging tools (scan) this more often.
So that light can be utilized in the field of medical imaging, photons (particles of light) emitted by the small amount of the object the (body) which is being imaged must be recognized. This is a constraint that owned the tools that already exist. Body tissues that cover the object being imaged causes noise in the image by blurring the light.
In ways that are implemented now, this problem is overcome by using expensive cameras equipped with shutter special filter “impurities” which is caused by light scattered by the tissue. That increases costs.
Researcher Joseph Rosen and David Abookasis of Ben-Gurion University in Israel have now found a new way. Scientists collect some pictures of the object being imaged and these images combining images in such a way as to produce a good image of the object. So, they get a picture of the average yield of the drawings, and the light scattered by the body’s tissues, the “impurity” in the figure, can be eliminated. The business case is a real solution to the problems found in devices that already exist.
However, the design was the inspiration of solving problems by means of incorporation of this is not a man-made tools. In seeking to resolve this problem, scientists are inspired by the “compound eyes” which is used by the fly for hundreds of millions of years. In fact, the title they give to their research is “Seeing through biological tissues using the fly eye principle” .
Taking the design of the fly’s eye as their starting point, scientists are preparing for the microlens array consisting of 132 pieces of very small-sized lens. To test their idea, the researchers took two pieces of [meat] chicken breast and a wing bone tucked in between. They then highlight one side of the meat with a laser-powered light and placed the microlens on the other side. Images of the microlens were transmitted to a digital camera with normal lens. Computer and eliminate most of the impurities generated by the scattered light, resulting in a clearer picture of the bones are covered wing.
“Microlens are more numerous and other improvements should improve the sharpness of the picture,” said Rosen. “With the funding to develop it further, the device could in a year we can see the bones in the palm of the hand, or root of a tooth. ‘”
